Brief History
The partnership between Sacred Heart School and Choice Bank began in 2020 as the Choice Bank Business and Values Program. The Benedictine Values of Sacred Heart School and the Core Values of Choice Bank align in such a way that real impact can be made on the lives of others. In an effort to bring the world of business and finance to life for students, Choice Bank committed to providing resources and support for all business-related courses at Sacred Heart, including Accounting I and II, Business Law, and Personal Finance. In addition, the students in Entrepreneurship gained an understanding of operating every aspect of the Eagle Corner Store on a daily basis. Professionals from Choice Bank also made regular appearances in classes to discuss the world of banking and finance in an ever-changing world.

"We can do this even better."
Recognizing an opportunity for growth and innovation, the decision was made to expand the Choice Bank Business and Values Program footprint beyond the business classes. Leading up to the 2024-25 school year, there was a sense that “we can do this even better.”
With the collision of vision, opportunity and initiative, the Choice Bank Experience was born. The Experience is about providing opportunities for students to connect with community leaders and businesses in the East Grand Forks and Grand Forks area and arm students with tools for success in their post-secondary plans. Students are able to explore future careers and build relationships with those already in their fields of interest. Job shadowing opportunities are available for students in Grades 10-12. In addition, a course called Senior Seminar is now part of the class schedule for all seniors.
Senior Seminar topics include:- Being a contributing member of the community you live in
- Budgeting
- Buying vs. renting a home
- Career exploration
- Credit and debit card advantages and disadvantages
- Digital citizenship
- Financial aid and financing your post-secondary decisions
- Growing and sustaining your faith after high school
- Job shadowing
- Letters of recommendation
- Resume and cover letter writing
- Scholarship applications
- Service projects
The culminating event for each senior in the class is a full-scale mock interview with a panel of community business leaders.
While the features of the original Choice Bank Business and Values Program are still alive and well, expanding the scope of the program has had a positive impact on the student Experience at Sacred Heart School. There is tremendous pride in providing opportunities today to build a better tomorrow!
