IMG_9778The Sacred Heart Seniors took a day trip to Red Lake on Wednesday Feb. 8th as a part of their Senior Legacy Service Project. Earlier this fall they had an overnight trip to Red Lake in which they spent 2 full days in the school. Fr. Jerry Rogers the pastor at St. Mary’s school wants this project to be “relational.” Fr. Jerry stated, “The best thing these kids could have is someone of high school age to look up to and realize that education is important and finishing high school is attainable. Most of these students do not have older siblings or parents to look up to who have graduated high school.”

The poverty on the Red Lake reservation is daunting… Fr. Jerry goes on to say, “I hope that through building positive mentorship relationships both the Red Lake and Sacred Heart IMG_9770seniors will learn something. They can learn from each other.” The Red Lake 4th-6th graders will be coming for a field trip visit to Sacred Heart in March. The seniors are working to design a fun and faith filled visit for the Red Lake students. Fr. Jerry stated, “We want to help build some positive memories for these kids.”
