Sacred Heart to induct teams into Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday

HallofFameSacred Heart School’s Athletic Hall of Fame will induct its 20th class of inductees this Friday, August 21st, as part of the school’s Purple & Gold Alumni Gathering. This year’s inductions include the 1947, 1953 , and 1958 basketball teams, and the 2005 and 2006 baseball teams.

Sacred Heart School will host an Induction Dinner at 6pm in the Sacred Heart Social Hall on Friday, August 21st, as part of the Purple & Gold Alumni Weekend Events. The 1947 Basketballteam was comprised of Del Peterson, Ben Corbid, Billy Powers, Benny Wolfe, Jack Ruddy, Jerry Driscoll, Don Lyons, Jerome Krejci, Bob Brouse, Pat Kelly, and Tom McMahon.  Coach Bob Hannah led the Sacred Heart Eagles to the 10-team regional basketball tournament in St. Cloud, MN.

The 1953 Basketball team is credited with the making the first trip tothe StateTournament by a Sacred Heart Athletic Team. The team won the consolation championship in a thrilling, double-overtime win in St. Paul.

1958 Basketball Team

The 1958 Basketball team won the Region I title of the Minnesota Catholic High School League. High scorer was Joe Raymond with 24 points. Joe Cariveau and Mike Cariveau made the All-Regional Team along with Ordean Juve.

2005 Baseball Team

The 2005 Baseball team is being recognized for being the first SHS baseball team toearn a trip tothe State Tournament. Under the guidance of first-year head coach, Mike Elke, Sacred Heart won the Section 8A Championship after a dramatic seventh inning comeback. The team finished with a 25-5 record. The 2006 Baseball team took 2nd in the Sub-Section and won the Section 8A Championship. The team went on to take 5th at the State tournament. The team finished with a 18-9 record.

The Athletics Hall of Fame was established by the Sacred Heart Athletic Club in 1993 to recognize the excellence of various individuals and team for their contributions to the Eagle’s Athletic Programs for the young men and women of Sacred Heart School. These honorees are chosen based upon their high school or college accomplishments and/or their efforts to help the School’s athletic programs.
