Parent Notes & Reminders

Exciting news! The Sacred Heart Foundation has received a $2.5 million grant from the Engelstad Family Foundation to fund a 10,865-square-foot addition to the Sacred Heart School in East Grand Forks. Read more about this HERE. 


For high school students - The dress code next week during Beyond the Classroom is a regular school day dress code. The only exceptions are stated in the Beyond the Classroom course description and during that specific class time.


Congratulations to the Science Club on a great showing at the Regional Science Fair on Saturday and especially to Kannon Knutsvig, Yuki Guan and Caden Knutsvig, winning a Blue award, 1st place and going to state. Receiving a Red award, 2nd place and state alternates were Ben Goetz and Gabby Zimprich. Also winning 2nd place was Jiejun Chen, Mallory Howe, Grace Roberts, Harrison Punton and Bella Haas. Caden Knutsvig was awarded the International Systems of Metric Units Award and Yuki Guan was the recipient of the Air Force Award of Excellence, the Naval Science Award of Excellence, the Regional Water Prize Award, and placed 3rd overall. March 2nd, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Menu: Alaskan Walleye, Baked Potato, Cole Slaw, French Bread. Enjoy a piece of homemade pie/dessert for $1.50 a slice!
Cost: $11.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 & under. This is THE Friday Lenten dining event of the Greater Grand Forks area, and supports Sacred Heart Athletics. We serve from 500 to 1000 meals each Friday and this year we will be having the drive-thru/take-out over at the elementary doors located at 117 4th Street NW, EGF. Drive thru will be available by using the driveway on the elementary side of the building. There will be a payment kiosk, and dinner orders will be delivered to cars at the curbside. At this time dessert is only available on dine in. 


We assign a sport to work each of the Fridays; however, if your family isn’t available during your designated Friday you can feel free to choose a different Friday to help out.  


March 2nd – Boys Basketball
March 9th –Baseball
March 16th – Softball, Track and Field
March 23rd Football, Wrestling, Swimming, Soccer, Cross Country, Tennis.


Kindergarten Round Up

Sacred Heart School is inviting all registered and prospective future 2018-19 Kindergarteners and their parents to attend our Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday, March 20th, at 5:30 p.m. Kindergarten will have a waitlist and the school will communicate to families if they are placed within the program very soon. Families who are waitlisted are still welcome to attend.


RSVP by calling the Elementary Office at 218-773-1579. Round-Up will begin in the School Auditorium, 200 Third Street NW, East Grand Forks, MN (Use the Eagle door, #2). The event covers an overview of what to expect as a Kindergarten student and parent, and how you and your child can be prepared for the next step in their education!






Middle School Youth Rally


March 18th: Youth in grades 6-8 are invited to "Fully Alive," the Diocesan Middle School Youth Rally in Bemidji, MN! This is a one day event that brings together hundreds of teens from around the Diocese for a high energy, action packed day of talks, prayer, games, entertainment, coffeehouse, and a 3x3 basketball tournament. Students can sign up in the high school office or via parent contact with Renata ( A registration & permission form must be completed and turned in to Renata by March 14th. Cost for this event is $45, including travel and a sit down lunch and can be turned in with registration or at drop off. Departure & arrival times: 9:30 am & 9:30 pm at Sacred Heart. 


Activities & Athletics Update

The 5th and 6th grade youth basketball tournament was a huge success this past weekend. The 5th grade girls took home the consolation championship, both 5th and 6th grade boys placed 3rd and the 6th grade girls brought home silver medals with a 2nd place finish. Thank you to all the volunteers that worked multiple shifts.


The boys basketball section brackets are out! Your Eagles are the #2 seed and will play March 8th at Northland College in Thief River Falls against the winner of WAO/Red Lake County. View brackets HERE.


The boys basketball team finished up an incredible regular season beating the Climax/Fisher Knights 92-48. The boys finish the year with the best record in school history at 22-4. The Eagles started the game on a 19-0 run and didn’t look back. Jordan Tomkinson scored 26 points, John Fontaine had 15, Jack Gerber scored 14, and Brenden Bethke added 11.


The girls basketball defeated the Northern Freeze 41-28 last night in the section tournament. After being down at half time by 5 the Eagles outscored the Freeze 26-8 in the second half. It was a great team effort on defense! Leading all scorers was Jessica Remer with 20 points and 9 rebounds, Katelyn Rudolph added 10 points and 5 blocked shots, Sydney Lloyd grabbed 7 rebounds, Maddi Mitzel had 5 rebounds, and Ivy Edwards dished out 4 assists. The Eagles will play BGMR tomorrow afternoon at 1:45 at the REA in Thief River Falls, it would be great see some students there to cheer on the team!
